After Visiting Lochness Park this morning we went over to my Mother’s home so I could help with sorting through things in the pole barn for her eventual move up north. While I helped her with that, Lizette got a few great shots of a Red-bellied Woodpecker. Now that the leaves are gone they are more easily seen as in this series of photos.

Lizette and I noticed that there must have been a hundred or so Dark-eyed Juncos in the yard here. We’ve only spotted one visiting our home this fall, hoping to see then again this winter.

I still get a few of these red bellies here in southern Minnesota but sadly the red-heads have totally disappeared the last few years.
I can believe that, at the beginning of this year on our way back from Wabasha, I was surprised to spot a Red-headed Woodpecker in a tree along side the road, never was able to get a photo of it due to the fact I was driving at 55 and a few cars were tailing us.
